Wedding & Engagement FAQ’s

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions many of our Louisville wedding and engagement clients have about our services. If you don’t see what you need, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

What types of wedding photography sessions do you offer?

In addition to wedding photography, we offer several wedding-related photography session options. These are Engagement, Bridal, Bridal Boudoir, Trash the Dress, and Morning After photography shoots. These shoots typically last 2 hours and are designed to complement the wedding day. Depending on the wedding collection selected, Engagement Sessions may be included in your wedding collections. Other sessions can be added to any package for an additional fee.

What is a Bridal Session?

This is a private session at a location of your choice for the bride in her dress. This session allows us to capture some great images of the bride alone without taking up a lot of time on the wedding day itself and is one of the most popular extra sessions we offer. This is typically scheduled on the day the bride goes for the trial run of her hair and makeup. You already have spent a lot of time on hair and makeup that day, so why not take advantage of how beautiful you look to shoot some images of you in your dress looking just like you will on your wedding day! If you are planning a First Look for your wedding day, this is also something that could be done beforehand as part of this session.

What is a Bridal Boudoir Session?

Many brides want to give their new husband a special present on the wedding day. This 1 hour session is designed to create some beautiful, sexy images of the bride for his eyes only. Think sexy lingerie here! This session is normally scheduled several weeks in advance of the wedding day. A custom-designed album is provided as part of this session.

What is a Trash the Dress Session?

In recent years, it has become fashionable for brides (and sometimes grooms as well) to destroy, or at least look like they are destroying, their wedding attire. This could run the gamut from jumping in a pool or lake while wearing the wedding attire, to actually burning it or ripping it up. Sometimes the whole wedding party joins in! This session is designed to capture the action live as it happens.

What is a Morning After Session?

This newest trend in wedding photography started in New York City a few years back. As its name implies, it was originally a session where the newlywed couple had themselved photographed in their hotel room the morning following the wedding. However, it has evolved over the years and now is a session done within the first month of the wedding in the couple’s home. It is a casual session that is designed to capture the couple just being themselves as newlyweds without all the show of the wedding day. This session normally lasts for 1 hour and includes an album of images.

What should I wear for my engagement session?

For an engagement session, we normally suggest wearing complementary clothing. You don’t need to look like identical twins, but coordinate the colors and styles. We want you to look great, so clothing that is flattering and fits well is preferable. You can go with formal and stylish or casual, whichever you prefer. You can have more than one outfit, but because the session is only 2 hours, we want to maximize the shooting time and not spend it doing a lot of clothing changes. 2-3 outfits is best. Solid, neutral colors are generally better than patterns or big prints. It is a good idea to avoid clothing with big logos, lettering or photographs as they tend to be distracting from the most important part of the image, which is you. Most importantly, wear clothing that is comfortable.

I have specific poses in mind. Can we do those?

If you have a specific pose or poses in mind, we will try to accommodate that during our photography session, and you are welcome to bring images you see in magazines or online for us to try to re-create.  However, we cannot guarantee that there will be time to do all of the poses you have in mind.  Our goal is to work with you to create a unique set of images that reflects your personality and your love for each other, and our photographer has a unique vision of how to do this. We want you to look your best in your images, and our photographer uses his training and creativity to create poses that make you look your very best.

Where do you do your engagement sessions?

It is entirely up to you where you would like to do your photography session. We suggest that you pick a place that you enjoy being at, has some special meaning for you, or is important in your relationship. This session is all about capturing the romance and love between the two of you. Whether it is re-creating the moment you gave her the ring or just hanging out together, we want it to be a relaxed and fun experience.

Do you do destination weddings?

Yes, we do. We have photographed weddings in Mexico, Las Vegas, and a variety of other locations outside of Louisville, KY. We actually recommend using a photographer that is local to you for your destination wedding, as it often prevents issues dealing with a photographer that is hundreds or thousands of miles away. Typically, we would charge for the wedding collection plus the costs of travel expenses to the wedding location (transportation, lodging and food.). If you are planning a destination wedding, please contact us early on and we will come up with a custom quote for our photography services for your wedding. We recommend booking us a minimum of 6 months out to allow adequate time for making the necessary travel reservations.

Do you charge extra for travel costs?

Our service area includes anything within an hour’s drive of Louisville, KY, and we do not charge for travel within this area. For locations outside of this area, we charge additional fees based on actual mileage or actual travel expenses incurred in providing our photography services.

What if it rains on our scheduled date?

As many of our clients prefer to have their engagement photography done at an outdoors location, weather is sometimes an issue. When booking a client, we always schedule a backup date for an outdoor shoot as an alternative in case of inclement weather. That way we have the best chance of capturing great images without worrying about rain.

Do you have wedding photography packages and what do they cost?

We offer 3 different wedding collection options to our clients. We also offer a la carte pricing if you want to put together a custom package or add additional products or services to any collection. Our wedding package pricing starts at $1995. Please contact us to request more information on our collections and pricing.

Is there a deposit required?

We work with our clients on a contract basis. As such, we normally require a non-refundable retainer fee at the time of booking the session or wedding date. This will vary depending on the type of session we are scheduling (wedding, engagement, bridal, bridal boudoir, trash the dress, or morning after). With the exception of weddings, we normally require a retainer of 50% of the session cost at the time of booking, with the remainder due at the time of the session. Weddings require a non-refundable retainer fee of $400 at the time of booking the date and all remaining fees are due 30 days before the event.

Do you offer payment plans for your wedding packages?

Yes, we do. We normally require a $400 non-refundable retainer fee at the time of booking. The remaining cost can be divided into up to 3 additional payments, spaced evenly between the time of booking and the wedding. Final payments are due 30 days prior to the date of your wedding. Payments can be made with cash, check or credit card.
