Senior Photography FAQ’s
Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions many of our Louisville senior photography clients have about our services. If you don’t see what you need, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
How long does a session last?
Our senior sessions normally run for up to 2 hours to allow adequate time for clothing changes and capturing images. We ask that you arrive at your session 15 minutes early to allow time to go over any last minute details prior to starting the shoot.
What should I wear?
For a senior portrait session, we normally suggest 3 changes of clothing — one formal, like a prom dress or evening gown; one semi-formal, similar to what you would wear on a special occasion or to an event where you needed to dress up a bit; and one casual, like jeans, casual shirt, etc. We want you to look great, so clothing that is flattering and fits well is preferable. Solid, neutral colors are generally better than patterns or big prints. It is a good idea to avoid clothing with big logos, lettering, or photographs as they tend to be distracting from the most important part of the image, which is you. Most importantly, wear clothing that is comfortable.
What about hair and makeup?
If you are planning on getting your hair cut prior to the session, we suggest that you do this no less than 5 days before the shoot. Freshly cut hair tends to be a bit frizzy and doesn’t lay well, so it needs a few days to grow out in order for you to look your very best on picture day. We don’t use a specific makeup artist, so you are free to choose your own. Please be sure to allow adequate time for the makeup session so that you can arrive on time for your photo shoot. Late arrival means that we may not have the time we need to create all the images that we would like to have.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, by all means feel free to bring a friend along. While our session is primarily meant to focus on you, if you have a special friend you might like to include in some of your images, we would be happy to accommodate that. For our Senior clients, we also host an annual Bring a Friend photo shoot day. Ask about that at your consultation and booking and we’ll be happy to provide you more information.
I have specific poses in mind.
If you have a specific pose or poses in mind, we will try to accommodate that during our photography session, and you are welcome to bring images you see in magazines or online for us to try to recreate. However, we cannot guarantee that there will be time to do all of the poses you have in mind. Our goal is to work with you to create a unique set of photographs that reflects your personality, and our photographer has a unique vision of how to do this. We want you to look your best in your images, and our photographer uses his training and creativity to create poses that make you look your very best.
Do you have a Senior Ambassador Program?
Yes, we do. Our Senior Reps have the opportunity to participate in special themed shoots throughout the year, as well as the chance to win a destination shoot at a fantastic location. Please ask about the program at the time of your booking, and we will provide you with the details.
What’s your travel cost?
Our service area includes anything within an hour’s drive of our location, and we do not charge for travel within this area. For locations outside of our area, we charge additional fees based on the mileage or actual travel expenses incurred in providing our photography services.
What if it rains?
As many of our clients prefer to have their photography done outdoors on location, weather is sometimes an issue. We always schedule a backup date as an alternative in case of inclement weather when we book an outdoor shoot. That way we have the best chance of capturing great images without worrying about rain.
Do you require a deposit?
We work with our clients on a contract basis. As such, we normally require a non-refundable retainer fee at the time of booking your session. Our normal retainer fee for a senior session is $299, however, we occasionally run sales on our sessions, so please ask when you contact us if we have any current specials.
How long before I get to see my images?
We normally require 3 weeks to get images edited and ready for viewing. We will schedule a viewing date for you to view and order your products at the time of the shoot.
Once I order my products, how long before they are ready?
Prints are usually ready within three weeks. Albums may take a bit longer as the album design process is a bit more involved. Once an album is designed, we will submit it for your approval before sending it off to production. Once approval is received, it typically takes 2 to 3 weeks to get the album from the printer. Once all products have arrived, we will notify you and schedule a delivery date to deliver your order to you.
Do you have a payment plan?
Yes, we do. We require payment of the non-refundable retainer fee at the time of booking the session. At the conclusion of your session, we will provide you with our price list of our packages. During your viewing session, you will be able to place your order for packages, prints, albums and other products. We require payment of 50% of the cost of your order at the time of placing the order. The remaining 50% is due upon delivery of the final products.
